What is the Survivors Circle for Reproductive Justice?

The Survivors Circle for Reproductive Justice is a newly incorporated not-for-profit entity created to centre the lived experiences and priorities of indigenous women, men and gender diverse who have experienced reproductive and obstetric violence, including forced/coerced sterilization. Our mandate is to provide supports to survivors and to advocate for reproductive justice for all First Nations, Inuit, and Métis across the provinces and territories.

Our Vision

Indigenous women, men and gender diverse have total autonomy over their bodies and reproductive health without the interference of forced/coerced sterilization.

Our Mission

Our mission is to support survivor-led healing and wellness, raise awareness, advocate for reparations, and increase prevention of the occurrence of reproductive violence for survivors of reproductive violence, including forced/coerced sterilization.

Three Pillars of our Work

    1. Will create a forum to speak with one unified voice—invite and welcome survivors to register.

    2. Will create a survivor registry and data repository—a place to safely share, document, and archive survivor stories.

    3. Will create a research arm to review all aspects of reproductive justice grounded in the ethics of OCAP and the stories of survivors.

    1. The Survivors Circle will be a well-recognized and respected international entity representative of all Indigenous survivors and experts of reproductive injustice in Canada.

    2. Will become Canada’s recognized and legitimate authority concerning the impacts of reproductive injustice.

    1. Will have a legal standing that recognizes the collective of indigenous women, men, and gender diverse who have been sterilized and other Indigenous indigenous women, men, and gender diverse who have experienced reproductive injustice.

    2. Will resource the Survivors Circle for long-term sustainability.

    3. Will create and administer healing and wellness programs for members.

    4. Will advocate and liaise with private donors, colleges, the health care system, and government entities to promote reproductive reform in law.

    5. Will advocate for the implementation of preventative measures.
