About the Registry

The Survivors Circle for Reproductive Justice is launching a membership registry to serve as the official record of forced sterilization of Indigenous people in Canada. The registry will include the stories and records of Indigenous women, men, Two-Spirit, and transgender people in Canada who have experienced forced sterilization. The protections and privacy of all data and archived stories follow the First Nations principles of Ownership, Control, Access, and Possession (OCAP) and applicable privacy laws.

The registry will be a collection of data while preserving for survivors and their families the memory of forced sterilization as it has been experienced. While the survivors and/or their families will be able to choose how their story is used, research and data will help to determine how many Indigenous women, men, Two-Spirit, and transgender people have been impacted over history and will lead to valuable research on preventative measures that can be implemented in systems to ensure this harm is never experienced by Indigenous people again.

Survivor to Survivor

All too many times, Indigenous persons find they have had information shared without their consent or have given consent for one purpose only. The SCfRJ is taking measures to keep a registry that is locally owned and protected by this organization and committed first to protect your information and its use in a way that you consent to.
